Special Forces Association - Chapter 31
SFA Educational Assistance Program

Applicant Overview

Eligibility

All applicants must have been accepted by or already be attending an accredited college, university or vocational institution.  This scholarship is primarily designed for undergraduate course work.

Applications will be accepted from the following categories:

• A family member of a Special Forces Association Chapter 31 member in good standing, a chapter member in good standing, a Jr. ROTC high school senior *, or a Montanyard family member, who is being sponsored by the chapter. Family members include:

o Spouse
o Child
o Grandchild

• A Special Forces Association Chapter 31 member who is deceased but was in good standing at the time of their death.  The following family members are eligible:

o Spouse
o Child
o Grandchild

* Any Jr. ROTC high school senior who participates in Chapter 31 monthly Vet-to-Vet Program at least 5 times during their senior year will be eligible to apply for the scholarship.

Application Process

The following items will be required for the application process:

1. Applicant Application Letter
This letter is an important part of the application process; so please give careful thought and consideration to your response.  (If you have previously applied, you may not use the same letter.)  Applicant letter must include:

• Name
• Address
• City/State/Zip
• Phone #
• Email address
• Educational plans
• Career plans and aspirations
• Planned use for scholarship funds

2. SFA Chapter 31 Sponsor Letter

The SFA Chapter 31 Member must include the following information about the applicant   (If you have previously applied, you may not use the same letter.):

• Why the applicant should be considered for the scholarship
• A significant event that impacted the Member and Applicant and their relationship

The Sponsor letter should include the following information:

• Member Information
• Name
• Address
• City/State/Zip
• Phone #
• Email address
• Relationship to Scholarship Applicant

 

3. Reference letters

Please provide a minimum of two (2) reference letters from the following. The letter must include name, email address and phone number where the reference can be contacted.  (If you have previously applied, you may not use the same letter.)

• Teacher
• Counselor
• School Official

4. Applicant Educational and Extra-curricular Information:
Include:

• Educational Information

o Most recent transcript (Fall 2017)
o Please include information on any additional scholastic achievement.

• Extra-curricular Information (when appropriate) and college students should include any activities or groups they are involved with.

o Summary of Extra-curricular activities
o Non-academic achievements
o Hobbies and community service

5. College, university or vocational institution

•  A copy of acceptance letter from institute of higher learning needs to be provided if you are a first time applicant.

 

Applications Accepted

• Applications will be accepted from April 15 through May 20, 2018 on an annual basis, with consideration given to first time applicants before previous winners.

Date of Award

• Letters will be mailed to all applicants by June 5, 2018.

Completed Application Package

• Your completed application package must be postmarked no later than May 20, 2018 or hand delivered to Georgene Moon no later than May 20, 2018.
